Obviously working at height presents a scaffolding business with a different set of risks compared to most other construction trades, although Public Liability will still be the main insurance to consider.
The Health & Safety Executive website has a wealth of information, on the areas of risk that a scaffolder needs to consider especially what to do to comply with the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
At Be Wiser our commercial team can give you the advice you need to help you protect your small business.
We can advise on the key covers that you need, such as Public Liability, Employers’ Liability and Contractors All Risks Insurance. We are here to help and look forward to receiving your enquiry.
Contractors All Risks insurance can be an extension to a Public Liability insurance policy or a standalone insurance policy that covers the property risks such as Fire and Theft for materials and equipment used to develop a building.
If the contract is to refurbish an existing building, the building itself will need to be insured separately. However the materials used to refurbish the building, the permanent works, will need to be insured by a Contractors All Risks insurance policy and often referred to as the Contract Works. The same insurance requirement for materials would apply if the contract was for a new-build. The policy can also cover any temporary works, typically site installations like huts and porta cabins.
Items such as your own plant, hired –in plant and equipment, the associated hiring in costs as well as your own or employees’ tools, are additional sections of cover that can be considered.
This additional link to the Health & Safety Executive website case study demonstrates how a scaffolding company can grow their business and reduce their insurance costs by making safety an integral part of what they do. Developing your business and reducing your insurance costs.
